Chepauk Super Gillies: 217/5 in 20 overs [Pradosh Ranjan Paul- 88 (55), Jagadeesan- 35 (27); Sandhu- 2/32 (4), Hariharan- 1/31 (3)] beat Salem Spartans: 165/9 in 20 overs [Adnan- 47 (15), Akash- 24 (27); Rocky- 2/13 (2), Viju- 2/18 (2)] by 52 runs.

Riding on a superb batting display, followed by an all-round bowling performance Chepauk Super Gillies beat Salem Spartans by 52 runs in Match 2 of the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL 2023).

Pradosh's half century propels Chepauk to a mammoth total

After opting to bat first, Chepauk Super Gillies had a great start as they managed 64 off the first six overs without losing any wickets. Pradosh Ranjan Paul, who was coming on the back of a brilliant domestic season with Tamil Nadu, got his team off to a flier.

The southpaw alongside Narayan Jagadeesan added 91 runs for the first wicket with the latter falling right before the halfway mark after making a decent 35. Despite losing Jagadeesan, Pradosh continued the onslaught as the 22-year-old completed his half century off 30 balls.

Baba Aparajith joined hands and added another 73 runs with Pradosh for the second wicket. Unfortunately, Pradosh missed out on a well deserved century as he departed at 88.

Sanjay Yadav gave the perfect finishing touch, extracting 26 off the everlasting last over with Abhishek Tanwar, captain of the Spartans, bowling delivering four no balls, taking CSG from 199 to 217 in one ball.

Chasing 218, Salem Spartans got off to a shaky start as they could only score 38 in the powerplay and lost two early wickets as well. Following the powerplay, Spartans needed to up their scoring rate but Chepauk ensured the asking rate kept on rising and the chasing team never looked in the hunt.

The spin trio of Baba Aparajith, M Silambarasan and Rocky Bhasker completely broke the back of the Spartans' chase. The game was done and dusted but Muhammed Adnan Khan, who walked in at nine played an entertaining knock, hitting four sixes off Ramalingam Rohit in the penultimate over.

Adnan remained unbeaten with 47 off 15, saving his side from an embarrassment as Salem Spartans went down by 52 runs. Rocky Bhasker and Baba Aparajith were the pick of the bowlers, scalping two wickets each.
