India seamer Shardul Thakur is making headlines again! The talented cricketer, who has been in fantastic form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, took a stunning hat-trick against Meghalaya. This achievement has further strengthened his hopes of making a comeback to the Indian Test team.

On Thursday, at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai, Thakur delivered a fiery spell right at the beginning of the match. Mumbai, after opting to bowl first, handed the new ball to Thakur, and he made an immediate impact.

In the very first over, he dismissed Meghalaya's opener Nishanta Chakraborty for a four-ball duck. But the real magic happened in the third over when he grabbed three wickets in three consecutive balls, completing his maiden First-Class hat-trick. The unlucky batters were B Anirudh, Sumit Kumar, and Jaskirat, all falling without scoring a single run.

Mumbai Dominate Meghalaya In Ranji Trophy Match

Mumbai bowlers dominated the match from the start. In the following over, Mohit Avasthi also took a wicket, reducing Meghalaya to just 6 wickets for 2 runs in 3.1 overs! Thakur's hat-trick was the fifth by a Mumbai bowler in Ranji Trophy history and the first since Royston Dias achieved the feat in the 2023-24 season.

Thakur has been outstanding in the Ranji Trophy so far. In seven matches this season, he has taken 20 wickets and scored 297 runs, including a century and two fifties. His all-round performance has been crucial for Mumbai's campaign.

Mumbai’s Qualification Hopes

Currently, Mumbai is placed third in Elite Group A. To stay in the race for a knockout spot, they need to win this match by an innings or 10 wickets to earn a bonus point. If they succeed, they will tie with Jammu & Kashmir at 29 points, while Baroda is slightly ahead with 27 points. However, Mumbai will still need to rely on the outcome of the last-round match between J&K and Baroda in Vadodara to determine their final standing.
