In the latest news, the much-anticipated one-off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand has been plagued by frustrating delays, as both Day 1 and Day 2 of the historic Test between the two nations were washed out without a single ball being bowled.

The match is scheduled at the Sports Complex in Greater Noida, this encounter was supposed to be a landmark event but has instead been overshadowed by issues with the playing conditions.

Despite clear skies on Tuesday (September 10) the aftermath of earlier rains left the outfield wet, with large patches of moisture also preventing play from starting. Earlier umpires had already called off the first day due to safety concerns about the soggy outfield. The Day 2 was equally dashed as the ground remained unfit for play.

It is important to mention that ground staff have been working tirelessly to dry the field. A recent photo that is going viral on the internet, shows table fans stationed along the 22-yard strip in an attempt to dry out the surface.

However, rain in the lead-up to the Test has left parts of the field waterlogged, and the damp conditions have proved difficult to manage.

The game, originally scheduled to begin at 10 AM, was advanced to a 9 AM start on Tuesday in hopes of rescuing some play, but the field still did not meet the necessary standards. As a result, Day 2 was called off without even the toss taking place.

Afghanistan's Test match against New Zealand will be their third red-ball fixture of the year, after Ireland and Sri Lanka. Following the series against Afghanistan, the Black Caps will travel to Sri Lanka for two Tests, and then move on to India for a three-Test series.
