The English bowling has been facing issues this season with in the death overs. The only man doing well in the particular phase was Reece Topley, but much to the disappointment of the English cricket fans and followers he has been injured and ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Let us have a look at Topley's record in the death overs in 2022 and try to have an idea of how important he was to the English bowling.

Yes, when you see this as an indivudual record the economy may seem too much. But if we compare his records with the other options of the team we will get and idea of how important Topley has been for the team.

Now, Tymal Mills has been brought in as a replacement for Topley and Chris Jordan will also be having the responisibility of bowling in the death overs. A peak into the records of the two bowlers will make the scenario for the English team pretty clear.

So, as the records suggest Topley has been the most efficient bowler for England in the death overs amongst the options they have available. Though Mills has not bowled too much, yet in the little he has bowled he has not looked promising.

Effects of Topley's absence

  • England will struggle even more with their death over bowling in the death overs.
  • Topley's absence means England will miss their most efficient bowler.
  • His absence genuinely affects the chances of the English team in the tournament

The fact that one of the prime bowlers will be missing for England during such major tournament will surely dent their plans for the same. How they cope with such a big hole in the team is what the fans will be eager to see.
