Josh Inglis Ruled Out: Blessing in disguise for Cameron Green?

In what is a big blow for Australia, Josh Inglis has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022, after suffering cut on his hand while playing golf. Inglis was kept in the 15-man Australia squad as a backup keeper to Matthew Wade, who could chip in with some handy runs lower down the order.

With many of the options available, the all-rounder Cameron Green is in contention to replace Inglis but the major issue with them is lack of a wicket-keeping reserve in the squad in case Wade is unable to take to the field. The other options include wicket-keepers Alex Carey, Josh Philippe and Ben McDonald who could get an eye in if Green does not make it.

Australia's head coach Andrew McDonald expressed his concern over this problem. He said,

"We have got a bit of a problem to solve this morning around our back-up 'keeper and also a back-up batter,

"We have got to work out what a squad would like going into a World Cup without a back-up 'keeper and the scenario if Matthew Wade were to get injured on the morning of a game. What would you do there if you didn't have a resource in the group that was a stand-out 'keeper?"

While they are also considering Nathan Ellis for the role, Green still has chance to make the cut. The selection conundrum is equally debatable considering Cameron Green could also keep wickets.

"If Cameron Green was considered in the starting XI before the tournament started then he would have been in the 15 and he's not, so if he was to come in there's no way, unless there's another injury, that he would come into the starting XI."

Inglis was anyway not in the first eleven for the Aussies and all they would hope is that Wade remains fit. Josh Inglis hasn't featured in more than two international matches for the Aussies, previously during the tour of India.

If Green gets the nod, then it would be interesting to see if he gets a place in the opener against New Zealand on 22nd October.
