The four top teams will now lock horns in the semi-finals of India's premier domestic T20 tournament, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 on Thursday (November 3). Here is the preview of the teams in the hunt for the final spot. 


Semi-Final 1: Punjab vs Himachal Pradesh

Punjab will be up against the challenge of Himachal Pradesh in the first semi-final of the tournament. 

With six wins in seven games, Punjab topped the Elite Group B points table. Then, they got past Karnatka in the quarter-finals, wherein they posted 225 and won by nine runs. The key players for them will be Shubman Gill and Siddarth Kaul. 

Himachal Pradesh marked their presence at the top in the Elite Group D with four victories in six games. In the quarter-finals, they chased down the target of 200 against Bengal. The best performers for them have been Rishi Dhawan and Akash Vashist.

Although Himachal Pradesh have been a tough team to beat in white-ball cricket in the last two season, Punjab have the presence of experienced players, who can bring in their big-match temperament. It is expected that the Mandeep Singh-led side sail through the finals. 


Semi-Final 2: Mumbai vs Vidarbha

Mumbai will be up against the stern challenge of Vidarbha in the second semifinal of the tournament. 

Mumbai finished in the first position in the Elite Group A points table with six victories in seven games. In the quarter-finals, they chased down the target of 167 against Saurashtra. The likes of Shreyas Iyer and Tushar Deshpande will be key players for the team. 

Vidarbha, on the other hand, tasted success on five out of seven occasions in the league stage. They posted 156 in the quarter-finals against Delhi and won by one run. Akshay Wadkar and Yash Thakur were the best performers for the team.
