South Africa aim for another comprehensive victory to fulfil a much-desired 2-0 series whitewash while India strive to avenge an embarrassing innings defeat in Centurion and restore pride with a win in the second and final Test of the series in Cape Town, starting January 3.

The Proteas completely outperformed their Indian counterparts in all three departments of the game while exploiting the conditions to greater effect and impact in the Boxing Day Test at the SuperSports Park.

They prepared a track designed to curtail the Indian wings and managed to do just that with a solid batting display and a menacing two-innings burst with the ball.

With a similar surface expected to be rolled out for the New Year's fixture, the home team starts as massive favourites to once again suppress the Indian threat and take another set of full points towards the ongoing cycle of World Test Championship (WTC).

The history of the iconic venue goes back to 1889 when it hosted its first Test between the hosts and colonial rivals England. Since then, the Newlands in Cape Town has hosted 59 Tests over the past 134 years.

The ground has historically been a place with one of the more balanced surfaces and overall playing conditions for either skill even as the advent of the WTC as a concept has given way for South Africa to prepare overly seam-friendly decks to nullify any advantage for the visiting teams and for their pacers to dominate the proceedings.

The venue has a near-equal split for teams batting and bowling first after the toss. While those batting first have won the rubber on 23 occasions, the ones fielding and chasing at the scenic ground have clinched victory 25 times.

Toss could be a crucial element. But if the hosts with their robust pace attack once again turned up in as imposing and dominant an avatar, it wouldn't matter much as India's inexperienced and in-transition outfit might not pose them much of a challenge.
