World number one ranked T20I batsman Suryakumar Yadav completed 2,000 runs in the format through his fighting knock against South Africa in the second match of their series in St. George’s Park.

Batting at number four and arriving at the crease following the early dismissals of openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, the stand-in Indian skipper punched out an attacking innings to lift his team’s run-scoring charge in the powerplay.

Through the course of his recent batting effort, Suryakumar Yadav joined the likes of Virat Kohli and Pakistan veterans Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to join an elite T20I list.

Suryakumar Yadav joins Kohli for a huge T20I record

Suryakumar Yadav made his T20I debut in a match against England in March 2021. Since then, the cricketer has turned up for his country 59 times in the country and was recently appointed as the team’s stand-in captain following Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma’s absence from the squad.

The elegant right-handed batsman scored counterattacking runs against South Africa to lead India’s recovery in the second T20I in Gqeberha. Through his fighting effort, the cricketer completed 2,000 runs in his T20I profile, achieving the feat in just his 56th innings for Team India.

Suryakumar joined senior teammate Virat Kohli to become the joint third-fastest in the format’s history to complete 2,000 runs. Pakistan batting twins Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan remain the joint-fastest to scale the landmark figure, considering the duo achieved the feat in just their 52nd innings. Suryakumar Yadav has scored over 2,020 runs in T20Is while maintaining an astonishing average of nearly 45. The senior batter is also among the fastest cricketers in history to bludgeon over 100 sixes in the format.

To date, Yadav has belted 16 half-centuries and three centuries in the format and holds a career T20I strike rate of more than 171.
