South African opener Aiden Markram hit a sensational century in the fourth inning of the WTC 2025 final against Australia at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. In a 282-run high-pressure chase, the SA opener delivered and left the fans in complete awe.

Australia, the defending champions, succumbed in the third inning, falling 73/7. However, Mitchell Starc’s half-century gave them a fair chance to fight as they set up a 282-run target for the Proteas, who are chasing their maiden ICC title.

With the pressure at its peak, South Africa lost Ryan Rickelton and Wiaan Mulder early with just 70 runs on the board. In such dire situations, opener Aiden Markram and captain Temba Bavuma led a match-defining resistance.

From 70/2, Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram knitted a match-defining 143-run partnership for the third wicket. Bavuma, despite struggling from cramps, stayed on the crease and hit a half-century.

Markram, on the other hand, showed equal intent as runs poured from both ends for South Africa. In the final few minutes of the third session of day 3, Aiden flicked a four through mid-wicket to bring up his hundred.

Though the batter had a quiet celebration, his teammates, family, and AB de Villiers were elated in the stands as they stood up to applaud the sensational inning.
