In the ongoing first Test between Sri Lanka and Australia at the Galle Stadium, Australia captain and star batter Steve Smith brought up his first ton of 2025. The right-hand batter entered history books and went past Sunil Gavaskar and Younis Khan as he smashed his 35th Test century. 

He took 179 deliveries to reach the milestone. The knock featured 10 fours and a solitary six. He completed his century with a triple on the 2nd ball of the 78th over. Also, Smith went past Kane Williamson in the list of most Hundreds in International cricket among active players:  Here is the list.

Steve Smith Brings Up 10,000 Test Runs In 1st Test

Before the start of the first Test, Smith required just a solitary run to complete 10,000 runs. He achieved the feat on the first delivery he faced in the match and joined the elite list of cricketers with 10,000+ Test runs. 

Not just he completed 10k Test runs, but also became the 2nd fastest Australian to reach to this milestone, only behind Ricky Ponting. Also, Smith is the fifth fastest batter to get to 10000 Test runs. He achieved the feat in just 205 innings. 

With the century, Smith now has closed gap with Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has 48 international centuries to his name. He just need one more century to equal hitman's record. Talking about the match, at the time of writing this article, rain has interrupted play, but Australia are 330/2 as Khawaja and Smith both have completed their centuries.
