Senior Indian opener Smriti Mandhana notched up a unique batting landmark against Australia in the second semifinal of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. Opening the innings for India alongside Shafali Verma at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Mandhana completed 1,000 runs against the champion Australian team in her ODI career.

The Indian vice-captain joined former captain Mithali Raj as the only other Indian player to aggregate 1,000 or more runs against Australia Women in ODIs.

Smriti Mandhana starts off India’s chase with a big record

Smriti Mandhana became only the second Indian cricketer, and the tenth overall, to complete 1,000 runs against Australia Women in ODIs.

The legendary Indian opener attained the landmark figure after reaching 4* during India’s tall chase of 339 runs in the second semifinal of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. Here is a look at five Indian Women batters with the highest number of runs to their names against Australia Women in ODI history.

Apart from aggregating over 1,000 runs against Australia in ODIs, Smriti Mandhana reached the four-digit mark in women’s ODIs against England, reaching the figure through her explosive knock of 88 runs a couple of weeks ago in Indore in match number 20 of the ongoing 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Unfortunately for Smriti Mandhana and for the Indian women's team, the cricketer failed to capitalize her start against Australia as she was dismissed for a run-a-ball 24. In the middle of maintaining India's tempo in the tall chase, the cricketer was dismissed by Australia's Kim Garth as the 'Women in Blue' slipped to 59-2 in 9.2 overs. For the time being, Mandhana's tally against the world champions still boasts a staggering haul of 1,020 runs at an average of nearly 50.
