In a significant turn of events, Jharkhand’s left-arm pacer Vikash Singh was barred from completing his over during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy clash against Rajasthan in Ahmedabad. The moment took place in the 15th over of a steep 216-run chase, when Vikash received his third and final warning for encroaching into the protected area in his follow-through, a violation umpires closely monitored to safeguard the pitch.
Vikash Singh suspended from bowling during Jharkhand vs Rajasthan match explained as per MCC Law 41.13
According to MCC Law 41.13, a bowler is prohibited from entering the protected area of the pitch during their follow-through without a valid reason. This law exists to prevent deterioration of the central surface, which can unfairly impact the batting team later in the match.
In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match between Jharkhand and Rajasthan, left-arm pacer Vikash Singh entered the protected area multiple times during his follow-through.
- First infringement: He was cautioned, and both umpires, his captain, and the batters were informed, as required under Law 41.13.2.
- Second infringement: He received a final warning that applied for the rest of the innings, in line with Law 41.13.3.
- Third infringement: On encroaching again during the 15th over, the umpires invoked Law 41.13.4, which mandates immediate suspension from bowling for the remainder of the innings. Since this happened mid-over, he was stopped after delivering the fourth ball, and another bowler (Anukul Roy) was required to complete the over provided he had not bowled the previous or next over.
As the law states, Vikash was immediately stopped from continuing his bowling, bringing an unexpected end to both his over and his spell. His figures closed at 3.4-0-32-1, forcing Jharkhand to hand the remaining two deliveries to left-arm spinner Anukul Roy.
Despite the unusual interruption, Jharkhand held their nerve and closed out a commanding 36-run win over Rajasthan, extending their unbeaten streak in the tournament. The victory ensured they finished atop Group A and advanced confidently into the Super League round in Pune.
