Sri Lankan batter, Dinesh Chandimal showed his class in the 2nd Test match against New Zealand and slammed a brilliant 16th century to put the home team in the driving seat. On a tough Galle pitch, Chandimal showed his class and brought up a brilliant ton to rattle the Kiwis.

With this century, the Sri Lankan batter has equalled teammate, Angelo Mathews' record of having the same number of Test centuries for Sri Lanka.

Chandimal shows his class to thump New Zealand

Apart from Chandimal, former Sri Lanka captains, Dimuth Karunaratne, Marvan Atapattu and Tilakratne Dilshan also have the same number of Test tons.

Chandimal came to the crease after Sri Lanka lost Pathum Nissanka for just 1 run. Coming in at number 3, Chandimal added a century stand alongside Karunaratne and took the home team out of a tricky situation. The Lankan side took his time in the middle, but once he settled in properly, the attacking batter showed his class.

After a crucial 2nd wicket partnership with Karunaratne, Chandimal continued the good work and forged a crucial partnership with Angelo Mathews. The duo played some brilliant cricket, and Chandimal slammed his 16th Test ton in just 171-balls.

New Zealand tried all permutations and combinations, and the resistance was finally broken when Glenn Phillips knocked his stumps for a well-compiled 116.

Chandimal scores joint-fourth most Test tons for SL

With a sensational ton, Chandimal now has the joint-fourth most centuries for Sri Lanka in Test cricket (16).

Only Greats of the game like Kumar Sangakkara (38), Mahela Jayawardene (34), and Aravinda de Silva (20) have more tons from Sri Lanka than Chandimal and others. Chandimal, a stalwart of the Sri Lankan cricket has 5863 runs in 84 Tests, with an average of 43.42.

He'll certainly go down as one of the best Test batters produced by the Lankan Lions in the last decade.
