Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan recently opened up about some heated clashes he had with ex-Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi. According to Pathan, Afridi often tried to provoke him with harsh words and even personal comments.

Interestingly, Pathan’s claims didn’t go unheard. Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria came forward in support of him. In fact, Kaneria backed Pathan’s side of the story and even criticized Afridi for his behaviour.

Pathan, in an interview with Lallantop, recalled an incident from the 2006 Pakistan tour.

“I thought since when did you become my father. He behaved like a child. I was neither talking to him nor saying anything. After this Afridi said some bad things to me. His seat was near mine,” he said.

Irfan explained how he responded, which silenced Afridi for the rest of the flight.

“Pakistan allrounder Abdul Razzaq was sitting with me then. I asked him what kind of meat is available here. He told me meat of different animals are available. After this I asked whether dog meat is available. Razzaq was surprised to hear me and said, ‘Hey Irfan why are you saying this?”

To this, Pathan replied: "‘He (Afridi) has eaten dog meat, he has been barking for so long’. “After this Afridi could not say anything. If he said anything I would have said look he is barking more.”

Danish Kaneria Questions Shahid Afridi's Decency And Class

Meanwhile, Danish Kaneria didn’t hold back either. On social media, he wrote:

“Irfan bhai, you’re absolutely right. He always resorts to personal attacks, be it on someone’s family or their religion. Class and decency clearly aren’t his strengths."

Because of this, Afridi now faces criticism not just from his former Indian rival but also from his own ex-teammate.

It is worth noting that Pathan also had a strong on-field record against Afridi, dismissing him nine times in 23 innings. Therefore, their rivalry was not only verbal but also clearly visible in the matches they played.
