The third edition of the Major League Cricket is turning out to be quite an interesting tournament with plenty of close encounters. The 11th match of the season was one of them as Washington Freedom chased down the target of 189 in the final.
One of the exciting battles of the game was between Glenn Maxwell and Trent Boult. It was the 15th over of Washington Freedom's innings, and Boult was bowling to Glenn Maxwell.
The Washington Freedom captain, Glenn Maxwell, was in red-hot form after his century in the last match. In the 14th over, he had hit six and four against Michael Bracewell and continued his onslaught against Trent Boult.
Red-Hot Maxwell's Onsalught Halted By Experienced Trent Boult
The Kiwi pacer bowled a short delivery, and Glenn Maxwell hammered it over deep square leg. It went out of the ground and clearly showed that the 'Big Show' was on a mission. The next ball was wide, and it was followed by a stunning yorker that left Maxwell completely stunned. The ball came in as well, and Maxwell failed to dig it out as the ball shattered the stumps.
It was quite a revenge for Trent Boult, who clearly looked hurt when the ball went out of the ground earlier in the over. The pacer also got the wicket of Mukhtar Ahmed in the 18th over and kept MI New York in the game. However, Mitchell Chapman batted with great maturity despite wickets falling at the other end and took Washington Freedom over the line in the final over.
Earlier, Mitchell Owen's 60 off just 26 balls put Washington Freedom ahead in the chase, and now they have three wins in four matches this season. MI New York, on the other hand, have won just one out of their four matches and are struggling to perform as a unit.
