Interestingly, the high-voltage clash has already witnessed two rain interruptions. The first rain delay forced the match officials to reduce the game to a 49-over-per-side contest. However, with the weather playing spoilsport, we might see yet another reduction in the number of overs.

According to the Australian commentators, it could be a passing shower. The groundsmen have only covered the playing surface, while the outfield remains uncovered. So, the chances of a washout are slim, and we can expect the match to resume soon. However, once the rain stops, the match officials will reveal the revised playing conditions, which will be updated in due course.

Has Perth Stadium witnessed a washout in ODIs?

This is the fourth ODI at Perth Stadium, and the venue has yet to witness a washout in the format. Teams bowling first have won two out of three matches, suggesting the importance of the toss at this venue. Interestingly, rain will create further trouble for India, with moisture expected to seep into the surface and make it spicier. So, a fascinating stage of play with a cracking contest between bat and ball awaits us in the first ODI between India and Australia.

Update: After a long delay, the India vs Australia Perth ODI was reduced to a 32-over per side affair.
