Shubman Gill injury- (Source : @Johns/X.com)
India captain Shubman Gill narrowly avoided a serious injury after taking a blow to his head while attempting a catch at first slip. Fortunately, the ball only brushed his forehead before racing to the boundary.
Gill Escape Major Injury
The incident occurred on the second ball of the 37th over. Harry Brook attempted to drive an over pitched delivery from Ravindra Jadeja, but the ball took the outside edge and flew so quickly that Gill had no time to react. As he reached for the catch, the ball missed his hand and struck him on the head, eventually going for four runs. Gill was visibly in pain, prompting the physios to rush onto the field after seeing him rub the spot where he was hit.
Luckily, the 25-year-old did not sustain any serious damage; the situation could have been much worse had the ball struck just a few inches to the left. After a brief delay and medical assessment, Gill was cleared to continue, and play resumed.
India Excellent in the Field
Despite the injury scare, the missed opportunity will be recorded as a dropped catch. Nevertheless, India have shown significant improvement in their fielding, learning from their mistakes in the first Test. In that match, the Shubman Gill-led side dropped six catches, which contributed to their defeat. However, in the 2nd Test, the visitors have been outstanding in the field, particularly in the slips, where the fielders have been flawless and taken all their chances.
England Frustrate India
Gill’s dropped chance was a result of India’s determined effort to dominate the game, as Harry Brook and Jamie Smith took control. The visitors started Day 3 positively, with Mohammed Siraj claiming two crucial wickets to leave England struggling at 84/5.
However, Jamie Smith and Harry Brook steadied the innings, putting together an unbeaten 146-run partnership for the sixth wicket. At the time of writing, England are 229/5, with the pair frustrating the Indian bowlers and shifting the momentum.
