Dasun Shanaka, the former Sri Lankan white-ball skipper, is likely to return to the T20I setup with the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. The seam-bowling all-rounder last played for Sri Lanka in July 2024 in the T20I series against India and has three consecutive ducks in the last three innings which forced him out of the international setup.

However, Shanaka has been playing franchise T20 leagues regularly and has shown good form in first-class cricket with a century in his last match. Thus, there is high possibility of his comeback into the T20I team according to the post on official X handle of Danushka Aravinda.

Dasun Shanaka's Inclusion To Add Experience And Firepower In Sri Lankan Squad

The Lankans lost their last T20I series against New Zealand and Dasun Shanaka's addition could add firepower and experience in the lower middle order. He has played 102 T20Is for his county and has five fifties in it, along with 33 wickets.

The cricketer also led his country in 48 T20Is from 2019 to 2023, guiding the Island country during the tough transition time. Thus, Sri Lanka's selectors seem keen to give the all-rounder another chance at the international level, with the hope that he can translate his domestic form into impactful performances at the national level.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa Likely To Face The Axe

If Shanaka is selected, there are high chances that Bhanuka Rajapaksa will miss the bus. He batted in the lower middle order in the last few series for Sri Lanka but could not make significant contributions, putting his selection in the upcoming Bangladesh series in doubt.

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are currently in the middle of the ODI series. The Charitha Asalanka-led unit won the first game by a comfortable margin, and the next two games of the series will be played on July 5 and 8.

The T20I series will start on July 10 in Pallekele, while the second and third T20Is will be played in Dambulla and Colombo, respectively.
