In his much-anticipated return game for Punjab Kings, Glenn Maxwell registered an unwanted golden duck on Tuesday when Shreyas Iyer and his boys took on Gujarat Titans in Match 5 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. However, Maxwell would have survived had he taken a DRS against the on-field decision, where he was given out LBW off Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore.
Why Maxwell Why?
Playing his first ball of the season, Maxwell went for his trademark reverse sweep. However, the left-arm spinner was too smart for him, and as soon as he went for an LBW appeal, the umpire raised his finger to give his verdict.
With Shreyas Iyer, the skipper, being on the non-striker’s end, Maxwell went to discuss with him whether he should challenge the decision or not. Unfortunately, Iyer was not too convinced to u-turn the decision, and hence, Maxwell had to walk back.
The replay showed Maxwell would have survived had he taken the chance, as the hawk-eye confirmed the ball would have missed the stumps.
Shreyas Iyer On Charge!
Meanwhile, Shreyas has been magnificent on his debut game for Punjab Kings. At the time of writing this, Punjab are 156/4 after 15 overs, with captain leading by example, batting on 64* off 30 balls. Marcus Stoinis is batting from the other end, on 14* off 13 balls, as the Kings are aiming for a strong finish.
