Mohammed Shami finally made his comeback into competitive cricket with a Ranji Trophy game between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. He is making a return after a gap of almost a year and picked a four-wicket haul in the first innings, showing great fitness and his trademark seam movement. Now, with the bat too, he has shown his prowess and smashed 36-ball 37 which included two fours and two sixes.

It shows that Mohammed Shami is almost back to his best and there are reports that he could be added into the Indian squad. Shami has the experience of playing in Australia and he could be handy for the Indian team that has just being whitewashed by the Kiwis at home. Also, in Australian conditions, runs from the bowling group can also prove crucial and Shami who has done it in the past, can prove to be an important asset for India.

Mohammed Shami last played for India in the World Cup 2023 where he was one of the shining lights for India, picking wickets in almost all matches. He has been a key figure in red-ball format and has taken 31 wickets in eight Test matches in Australia. Overall, he has 229 wickets in 64 Test matches and has six fifers as well.

It would be interesting to see how he goes about his business in the second innings and if he ends up bowling close to the kind of spells he bowled in the first innings, he could be on that flight to Australia soon.
