Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam belted 120 runs against Zimbabwe on Day 2 of the series-deciding second Test match in Chattogram. The 29-year-old smeared 16 boundaries and a six in his 181-ball knock as Bangladesh marched towards gaining a monumental first innings lead over the visitors.

Through the course of his innings, Shadman also soared past former opening batter Tamim Iqbal for a major Test record, and the cricketer notched up his own highest Test score in the process.

Up against Zimbabwe’s 227, Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam scored 120 runs from 181 balls with 16 boundaries and a six.

He shared a 118-run opening stand with partner Anamul Haque, and another 76 runs with number three batter Mominul Haque to take Bangladesh to the brink of 200. Shadman was eventually caught plumb in front by Zimbabwe’s young off-spinner Brian Bennett.

Notably, the left-handed opening batter went past former cricketer Tamim Iqbal to storm into the top 10 list of Bangladesh’s highest individual scorers against Zimbabwe in Tests.

He also soared past current team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto in the elite list, currently commanded by legendary wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim with his twin double hundreds against Zimbabwe, both at Mirpur back in 2018 and 2020 respectively.

The innings also marked Shadman Islam’s second Test century, and his highest individual score in the format. He bested his own previous best score of 115, which also occurred against Zimbabwe back in July 2021.

Shadman also completed 1,000 runs in Test cricket, becoming only the 18th Bangladeshi cricketer in history to breach the landmark figure.
