KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have started their IPL 2023 campaign with a bang by beating Delhi Capitals (DC) comprehensively by 50 runs in their first-ever game at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow.

The DC skipper, David Warner fought a lone battle as he scored a fifty but did not shy away from accepting the mistakes his team did in a chat after the game. He felt that chasing was difficult and LSG bowlers bowled well in the Powerplay. He also informed that at the toss he had 175 in his mind as a par score but credits LSG batters and bowlers for doing a good job.

This is what David Warner said:

"It was difficult to bat during the chase as it was made by the LSG bowlers. They bowled really well in the powerplay and put us under pressure. During the toss, I thought 175 should be par. But they added a few more runs. Not to take anything away from their bowlers, who bowled with good intent and put us in trouble. They did an outstanding job,"

David Warner also talked about momentum being an important thing in T20 cricket and applauds Mark Wood for the way he bowled and added that the speedster showed his talent and experience in this game. He then went onto mention that one cannot drop catches of big players like Kyle Mayers and they will make you pay.

"Momentum is important in this game. We talk about forming alliances, but you can't take Wood's place. He's a fantastic bowler, and he demonstrated his true talent and experience tonight. See, you can't drop a catch and that too of Kyle Mayers. In fact, you shouldn't be dropping catches. Once you give life to a big guy will make you pay for it, "

Warner feels that it is about going back to the drawing board for them and hopes to do well in front of the home crowd in Delhi in next game. He mentions that he was in Delhi in 2010-11 and the pitch was different at that time. However, conversation ended on a funny note when Gavaskar reminded Warner that he was in Delhi just a month back playing a Test match to which Warner responded cheekily that he does not want to remember that game.

"From either end, it appeared as if you were bowling on two different surfaces. It's a case of going back to the drawing board for us. We go back to Delhi infront of our home crowd for the next game. I think I have been back in Delhi around 2010-11. Now the pitch there might have changed a bit. Haha... I would like to forget that(Cheekily smiles when asked about playing in Delhi in the BGT Test match vs India last month)."

Delhi Capitals will now head to Delhi for their next game which is against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans. It will be played on Tuesday, 4th of April and DC would be hoping to get their campaign up and running in their first home game.
