Chennai Super Kings became the first team in the history of the IPL to make use of the Impact Player rule.  It was Tushar Deshpande who became that first player as he replaced Ambati Rayudu at the start of the second innings.

This also make MS Dhoni, one of the greatest captain ever to play the game to use the impact player putting another record in his bag at the fag end of his illustrious career.

However, Tushar Deshpande, failed to make any impact in his first over as he was smashed for 15 runs with Saha smashing him for a six off the very first ball.

Saha though departed in the fourth over and outwalk the second Impact Player - Sai Sudharsan who started off his knock with a superbly timed boundary to the square leg fence. He eventually lost his wicket in the 10th over at the score of 22 and Tushar Deshpande also managed to make an impact in the his third over when he got rid of dangerous-looking Shubman Gill.

However, Gujarat still managed to clinch the game by 5 wickets as Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan finished off a tense chase in the final over bowled by the first Impact Player - Tushar Deshpande.
