Prominent Indian batter Sanju Samson registered a failure on Tuesday, as he was dismissed for a low score in Kerala's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) clash against Andhra Pradesh. Opening the batting for Kerala, Samson got out cheaply in this crucial game, with KV Sasikanth removing him for seven runs.
Sanju Samson Lets Kerala Down With His Shambolic Performance
After winning the toss, Andhra captain Ricky Bhui opted to bowl first in order to capitalise on the seam-friendly conditions of the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad. His decision proved to be a tactical masterstroke, with the Andhra bowlers rattling Kerala with their lethal spells.
The visitors' in-form opener Rohan Kunnummal was the first one to depart, with Kodavandla Sudharsan dismissing him for nine runs.
Soon after his opening partner's departure, Sanju Samson lost his patience, gifting his wicket to Andhra's opening bowler Sasikanth in the sixth over.
This was Samson's third poor performance in his last four outings in the SMAT 2024. The batter, who managed only 54 runs against Goa, Mumbai and Maharashtra combined, managed only seven runs against Andhra Pradesh.
Kerala Get Skittled For 87 vs Andhra
Spin bowling all-rounder Jalaj Saxena was the wrecker-in-chief with the bat for Kerala, contributing 27 runs to their tally. Apart from the veteran cricketer, Abdul Basith and MD Nidheesh were the only Kerala batters to breach the two-digit mark, as they were bundled out for a paltry 87-run total. Sasikanth emerged as Andhra's most successful bowler, scalping three wickets for 23 runs.
