Rohit Sharma Enters Esteemed 'Six-Hitting List' With World Cup 2023 Final Knock

Questions were rife if Rohit Sharma could retain his belligerent top-order act under the enormous weight of an ICC World Cup 2023 final in Ahmedabad but the Indian skipper responded to the outside remarks with another gutsy effort against Australia on Sunday (November 19).

Bludgeoning the Aussie pace attack in the first powerplay on a dry pitch at the Motera Stadium, the experienced right-hander overcame the pressure of expectations and played a statement knock of 47 off 31 deliveries, featuring 4 fours and 3 sixes

Despite suggestions from certain corners to transform his approach again and readjust his tempo keeping in mind it's a World Cup final, Rohit brought his steadfast and defiant attitude to the fore and smash the Australian pacers in the first 10 overs of the Indian innings.

As always, the 36-year-old's imperious blitz at the top featured multiple sixes. Rohit smashed three of them in the afternoon before his dismissal and fetched a unique record next to his name, one that elevated him in an esteemed list of captains to have played the men's World Cup final.

Rohit Sharma Enters Unique List In World Cup Final

With his three maximums, Rohit became the captain with the second-most sixes in a single appearance of a men's World Cup final. The valiant cricketer leapt past the legendary MS Dhoni, who is now third in the esteemed bracket of skippers with two sixes hit during his epic 2011 final knock against Sri Lanka.

Notably, despite him jumping over his former skipper Dhoni, Rohit still ended five sixes behind Australian great and numero uno Ricky Ponting with his tally of eight maximums hit during a magnum opus 2003 World Cup final knock of 140 not out off 121 deliveries that set up a memorable victory against India.

Rohit, however, is now the Indian captain with most sixes struck during a men's World Cup final after his Ahmedabad feat, a record that would take some beating, for it would require similar bravery and courage displayed in abundance by the Mumbaikar throughout the campaign.

The selfless stalwart ended his breathtaking run at the World Cup with 597 runs made in 11 innings at a strike-rate of 125.94 with one hundred and three half-centuries.
