In a significant development, Riyan Parag has been handed the debut cap for the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka, a crucial match in the ongoing series, on August 7.

Virat Kohli, in a show of camaraderie, was earlier giving a speech in the huddle while holding the Indian cap. A few seconds later, he presented the cap to Parag and patted his head while congratulating him. Parag looked jovial and full of smiles ahead of his ODI debut.

Parag, who also played in the IND vs SL T20I series, proved too good with the ball. He picked up a three-wicket haul and gave away just five runs. He bowled impressively with his variations, and that is why the management has opted to bring him in.

Riyan Parag To Make ODI Debut Vs SL:

During the toss, the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma announced that KL Rahul and Arshdeep Singh have been dropped from the Playing XI and in their place Riyan Parag and Rishabh Pant will be coming in.

Here's what Rohit Sharma said during the toss:

"We've been challenged in the last two games, so we know where we stand and what we need to do with the ball and the bat," Rohit says. Riyan Parag and Rishabh Pant are in, KL Rahul and Arshdeep Singh are out. So India have strengthened their batting and their spin attack, and left out one of their two frontline quicks. Will be interesting how Dube does with the new ball, if he does get the new ball. Washington and Axar are both capable of bowling with it too.
