Riyan Parag continues his scintillating form in domestic cricket with an eye-catching 56-ball century for Assam in the first-round Ranji Trophy 2024 fixture against Chhattisgarh on Monday (January 7).

The explosive middle-order batter and captain led his team from the front and took the game back to the opposition after Assam were asked to follow on in the second innings.

Having been bundled out for just 159 in response to Chhattisgarh's 327 in the first half, Parag emerged as the flag-bearer of his team's resilient and fighting attitude in hammering a century at No.4 to reignite their hopes of salvaging a draw and some pride out of the contest.

The lone warrior smashed the bowling to all parts of the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, just like he had done earlier in the season when he dominated the runs chart for the Deodhar Trophy and then performed exceedingly well during the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20.

One of the fastest-ever first-class hundreds made witnessed Parag in his beast mode on against the Chhattisgarh bowlers, who managed to suppress the threat posed by the rest of the Assam batters but failed to withstand their own against opposition's finest.

Even as the rest collapsed around him, Parag raced to 126 unbeaten off just 73 deliveries, including 9 fours and 9 sixes, to give Assam a slender third-innings lead of 48 with still three wickets intact during the pre-lunch session. He eventually finished 155 off 86 balls.

It's as if the adversity brought the best out of Parag's game as he donned the role of an aggressor with minimal support at the other end and reinforced his talent and promise for the selectors to take notice.

The youngster will be hoping to continue his rich vein of form deeper into the Ranji Trophy campaign to help Assam shine in the premier first-class competition and raise his stocks and claims of higher honours in Indian cricket.
