'Blame T20 Cricket' - AB De Villiers' 'Angry' Reaction On Absence Of 3rd Test In IND-SA Series

AB de Villiers was disappointed with the state of affairs in the historic India-South Africa rivalry, which has been reduced to a mere two-Test series.

The Proteas legend wasn't amused by the fact there was no third Test in the just-concluded series and blamed excess organisation of domestic and international T20 games for the same.

Fans and experts were left deeply annoyed and disappointed with the absence of a decider, which would've been followed immensely by the global audience after India's remarkable win in the New Year's Test in Cape Town to level up the rubber 1-1, having earlier lost the Boxing Day fixture in Centurion to the hosts.

As things stand, India and South Africa will only be indulging in two-Test series with each other in the existing Future Tours Programme spanning 2024-27, with the Proteas due to come to India for a return series in late 2025.

De Villiers On Lack Of 3rd India-South Africa Test

De Villiers accused the two boards of giving excess priority to T20 cricket in their respective international and domestic calendars while failing to arrest the dwindling interest for Test cricket by upholding the Gandhi-Mandela Trophy to the esteemed place it deserves.

"I am not happy with the fact that there's not a third Test. You have to blame the T20 cricket going around the world for that. I don't know exactly whom to blame but I definitely sense something is wrong," De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

"If you want to see all the teams compete and see who is the best Test team in the world, something has to change," he added.

As per reports, even India's next two trips to the rainbow nation in 2027 and 2031 will be limited to just two Tests apiece. According to the latest broadcasting agreement signed between Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Sports18, these trips will also include 3 ODIs apiece and five and six-match T20I series, respectively.
