On Tuesday, September 30, India women and Sri Lanka women kickstarted the women's World Cup 2025 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. The Chamari Athapaththu-led side won the toss and invited India to bat first in the opening match of the prestigious fifty-over event.
For India, the Women in Blue made key changes to the playing XI and left out several big names. Notably, the likes of Arundhati Reddy, Radha Yadhav, and Renuka Singh Thakur are not playing and will miss the opening match against Sri Lanka.
The fans were surprised to see the exclusion of Renuka Singh Thakur and the internet were filled with queries whether the RCB star pacer is injured or not.
Why is Renuka Thakur not part of the playing XI vs Sri Lanka women?
Notably, for the unversed, Renuka Singh is completely fine and there are no injury concerns. Further, the right-arm seamer has been left out of the playing XI because of tactical decisions. India women have gone ahead with three spinners and two seamers - Amanjot Kaur and Kranti Goud.
Further, Renuka hasn't looked the same since her back injury and has been leaking a lot of runs lately. Renuka returned to the side for Australia series but managed to took just three wickets in two matches, with an economy of 6.90.
Also, in the warm-up matches, Renuka only managed to take a solitary wicket in two matches. Besides the tactical changes, there is also a possibility that India might be reserving Renuka Singh Thakur for important matches as the right-arm seamer is yet to fully recover from his back injury that ruled her out of action for several months earlier this year.
