The excitement is peaking as the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 begins today. In the first match of the prestigious event, India Women will face Sri Lanka Women on September 30, 2025. The match is being played at Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati, Assam.

It is important to mention that the 'Women in Blue' have a strong record against Sri Lanka, winning 31 out of 35 matches. In their World Cup meetings, India has won three times, while Sri Lanka has secured one victory.

In a major development, Sri Lanka Women have won the toss and elected to bowl first against India Women. Talking about the playing XI of the India Women's team, Renuka Thakur has missed a place in the playing XI. 

Arundhati Reddy has not been included in the playing XI as she faced an injury during the warm-up match against England. The Indian women are going with a spin-heavy attack for the first match. For Sri Lanka, the team has included two off-spinners, two left-arm spinners, and a single seamer.

Chamari Athapaththu: We are going to bowl first. I am pretty confident about my bowling attack. It's a good track but if we can put our plans in place at the right time. The dew could be a factor as well. We have 2 off spinners, 2 left arm spinners and a seamer. We are going with 7 batters. We had good preparation playing with the boys teams and domestic tournaments as well under the lights. Next 5 games we play in Sri Lanka in front of our home crowd which will be a great opportunity."


Harmanpreet Kaur: "We were looking to bowl first. But first game is always important and we are taking this as a good opportunity. It is looking good. Hopefully, we put good total on the board. Everyone is fit. We are going with three spinners and two pacers. She's always been great for us. Last couple of series, she has been brilliant. Hopefully, she will continue in the World Cup. We just want to play good cricket. That's what we are doing for the last few years now. That's what we want to do."
