England star-spinner Sophie Ecclestone grabbed an outrageous one-handed screamer to dismiss Australian opener Phoebe Litchfield in the first ODI between England and Australia.

The dismissal occurred in the first ball of the 13th over of Australia’s first innings. Nat Sciver-Brunt, who was bowling her third over on the trot, delivered a fuller delivery from round the wicket and Litchfield tried to hit it over the in-field.

The wicket might have held the ball a bit as Litchfield failed to time the ball and Ecclestone, at mid-off, timing her jump perfectly, pulled off a stunning one-handed catch. For a while it felt like it would easily go over the mid off fielder but Ecclestone flung out her right hand and plucked the ball out of nowhere.

Ecclestone herself could not believe it after taking the catch and covered her face in disbelief. Litchfield had to walk back to the pavilion for 34. Earlier, Australian captain Alyssa Healy won the toss and elected to bat first in the first ODI of the three-match series in Bristol.

Batting first, Australia lost skipper Healy to Kate Cross early in the powerplay. Litchfield was off to a slow start as well but finished the powerplay on a high as she hit Lauren Bell for 16 runs in the 10th over.

Australia were 62 for the loss of one wicket with Litchfield and Ellyse Perry batting in the middle. The duo went on to add 61 runs for the second wicket before Ecclestone one-handed screamer put an end to Litchfield’s innings.

Australia further lost Perry as Sarah Glenn managed to remove the veteran after dropping her earlier on 36. Australia eventually managed to score 263 in their 50 overs with the loss of 8 wickets.
