India's prominent middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer sustained his dream run in the ongoing Ranji Trophy competition, slamming a memorable double hundred for Mumbai in their ongoing clash against Odisha at the MCA ground. Coming at number five, Iyer struck a glorious knock, putting Mumbai in the driving seat.

Shreyas Iyer Shines With A Blistering Double Ton

After Odisha invited Mumbai to bat first, the hosts had a disastrous start, losing opener Ayush Mhatre cheaply. However, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Siddhesh Lad stood tall for the defending champions, steading their ship with a valiant partnership for the second wicket.

Although Odisha rocked Mumbai through quick scalps of Raghuvanshi and Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer bailed the hosts out of trouble, stitching a mammoth fourth-wicket stand with Lad. The duo hammered the visiting bowlers to all parts of the ground, eventually bringing up their respective milestones. While Lad completed a well-deserved century, Iyer struck twenty-two boundaries and eight sixes for his blistering double hundred.

Shreyas Iyer's Renaissance: A Big Relief For India

Shreyas Iyer's impressive performance in the Ranji Trophy is a massive relief for the Indian Test side that is plagued by inconsistency from its middle-order batters. While the talismanic Virat Kohli struggled to get going in the recently held New Zealand Tests, Sarfaraz Khan and KL Rahul have been vulnerable to quality bowling in recent times. In such a scenario, Iyer's clinical outing in the Ranji Trophy comes as a breathe of fresh air for India as they hope for a smooth transition after the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
