Some of the best players were on display on day 1 of the Ranji Trophy's Round 5 which saw outstanding performances from young Indian superstars. Let's sneak peek into the action from today.

Prithvi Shaw dominates the show with double-hundred

Mumbai's opener Prithvi Shaw was in full flow today as he thumped 240 runs from 283 balls staying unbeaten against Assam and playing without much trouble. His knock contained 33 fours and a maximum where he batted a strike rate of around 85. Mumbai ended the day on 397 for 2 with Shaw and skipper Ajinkya Rahane still at the crease on the score of 73. Assamese bowlers really had to toil hard as wickets were hard to come by.

Ruturaj Gaikwad rocks against Tamil Nadu

Maharashtra's day ended on the score of 350 for six wickets down, thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad's blistering 118* runs from just 126 balls. His high-quality performance along with the help of Kedar Jadhav and Azim Kazi both of whom amassed scores of 56 and 87*, respectively have given their side a solid chance to dominate the game. Gaikwad will be back on the crease tomorrow morning and will be interesting to see how much more he scores.

Kishan Singha's six-fer too good for Meghalaya

Manipur's Kishan Singha was phenomenal today as he grabbed a six-wicket haul against Meghalaya giving away just 18 runs in his spell of 13.1 overs. Singha's spell ensured that Meghalaya were restricted to just 157 by the end of their innings. In reply, Manipur lost four wickets for 81 runs, trailing by a margin of 76 runs.

Women umpires debuts in Ranji Trophy

It was a historic day in Indian cricket as for the very first time, women umpires were handed with the officiating duties for different games in Ranji Trophy. Vrinda Rathi, Narayanan Janani and Venugopalan Gayathri were the three who are currently umpiring in the matches between Goa vs Pondicherry, Railways and Tripura & Jharkhand and Chhatisgarh, respectively.
