Looking at the upcoming itinerary for the Indian team, T20 World Cup 2024 could be far away but the planning for the showpiece event has already begun as the selectors and management are aiming to build the squad around few players.

In the press conference before the Sri Lanka ODIs, skipper Rohit Sharma was questioned about his future in the shortest format. Sharma, without giving out much expressed that playing in every match for the three-format players is not possible which gives some young players a chance to represent the Indian side.

Rohit mentioned that he will decide on his future after the conclusion of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. His fitness and form are the key factors to be considered while assessing the road ahead in shortest format.

“Firstly, it is not possible to play back-to-back matches. You need to give them (all format players) enough break. I definitely fall in that as well. We have three T20Is against New Zealand. We will see what happens after IPL. I have not decided to give up the format."

India will be playing Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Assam on 10th January.
