There is no escaping that the Kantara fever has returned and it is bigger than ever. Kantara: Chapter 1 has set the internet buzzing once again with fans, filmmakers and critics all singing from the same hymn sheet.

KL Rahul joins the Kantara craze after watching Rishab Shetty’s masterpiece

The film’s earthy storytelling, rooted in the traditions of Karnataka, has wooed audience across India. And now, even cricket’s calm and composed star, KL Rahul, has joined the fan club.

Taking to his Instagram story, the stylish Indian batter couldn’t stop himself from praising Rishab Shetty’s masterpiece.

“Just watched Kantara. Blown away by the magic @rishabshettyofficial has created yet again. All heart and beautifully represents the people and belief of Mangaluru,” KL wrote.

A long-standing love affair with Kantara

This isn’t Rahul’s first brush with Kantara. In IPL 2025, his celebration against Royal Challengers Bengaluru gave fans a glimpse of how deeply the movie had influenced him.

After finishing the game with a six off Yash Dayal, Rahul removed his helmet, slammed it to the turf and drew a circle with it as he marked his territory in true Kantara style. A chest thump and a point to the ground later, the message was clear: Chinnaswamy Stadium was still his den.

After that moment, Rahul had explained the reason behind his celebration in a Delhi Capitals video.

“This is a special place for me. This celebration was from one of my favourite movies, Kantara. So, a tiny reminder that this ground, this turf, this place where I grew up, is mine,” he said.

That video went viral within hours and turned Rahul’s Kantara-inspired celebration into one of the most talked-about moments of the IPL season.

Rahul’s form hitting the right notes

Off the field, it is Kantara. On the field, it is pure class. Rahul has been in cracking form lately. After piling up 532 runs in 10 innings during India’s 2-2 Test series draw in England, he carried that momentum into the Test series vs West Indies.

In the first Test, the right-hander scored a brilliant 100 off 197 balls, setting up the foundation of an innings-and-140-run win for India.

Now, the focus shifts to Delhi, his IPL franchise’s home turf where the second Test begins on October 10. With form, confidence and a bit of Kantara energy behind him, Rahul will be eager to script another special chapter.
