'Please Retire, Headache For CSK': Netizens Tear Into MS Dhoni Amid Batting Struggles

MS Dhoni’s recent form with the bat continued to be a concern as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered yet another blow in IPL 2025. Despite staying unbeaten on 30 off 26 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC), Dhoni failed to provide the finishing punch during a steep chase of 184, and CSK eventually fell short by 27 runs.

Coming in at a crucial stage with CSK reeling at 74/5, Dhoni attempted to anchor the innings alongside Vijay Shankar. However, the veteran's innings lacked fluency, and he could only manage a strike rate of 115.38, hitting just one six in his 26-ball stay. The required run rate spiralled beyond reach, and the Super Kings finished with 156/6 in 20 overs.

MS Dhoni's Recent Struggles With The Bat

Dhoni's struggles with acceleration have been noticeable throughout this season. Against Rajasthan Royals, he managed just 16 off 11 balls, again without making any significant impact at the back end.

Earlier in the tournament opener versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Dhoni scored 30* off 16, a rare instance where he struck the ball cleanly but was left with too much to do after a top-order collapse.

While his presence brings calm and experience to the CSK camp, his inability to find boundaries consistently has affected Chennai’s chances, especially while chasing high totals and fans haven't let this slide past them.

Netizens React To MS Dhoni’s Slow Approach

Fans on social media have begun questioning Dhoni’s place in the XI, with many expressing disappointment over his slow and late approach.

Memes and posts mocking CSK’s lower-order approach and Ashwin coming earlier than Dhoni have also flooded timelines.

Let's take a look at how netizens reacted to Dhoni's struggles this IPL:

Chennai To Look Beyond MS Dhoni?

Chennai's repeated failures while chasing this season have largely come down to a lack of firepower in the final overs. While MS Dhoni has been a master finisher throughout his career, the ongoing season has shown signs that age may finally be catching up with the 43-year-old.

His drop in strike rate and delayed move in the batting order have left CSK stranded in key moments, especially when required to chase down 10+ runs per over in the final stages.

With the playoffs race tightening, CSK will need more from their middle and lower order — and especially from their iconic No. 7 — if they hope to stay alive in IPL 2025.
