Vijay Shankar escaped four times [Source: @TruthSlayer_24, @backfoot_punch_/x.com]
Some days you are blessed, and then there are days when you are Vijay Shankar vs Delhi Capitals. If luck was a stat in cricket, Shankar would havve been top of the table in CSK’s clash against Delhi Capitals in Chennai.
Shankar’s Great Escapes Had Fans Screaming
From missed LBW calls to dropped catches, Vijay Shankar had luck on speed dial on Saturday evening. It all started early in the innings. Mitchell Starc looked to have plumbed Shankar in front but the umpire thought otherwise and DC didn’t use DRS.
Moments later, DC had a golden run-out chance – missed. Then came two dropped catches – one by Kuldeep Yadav and another by Tristan Stubbs.
Twitter exploded with wild reactions and the conspiracy theories were flying thick and fast. Some fans claimed DC were deliberately letting Shankar bat while others couldn’t stop trolling CSK’s middle-order woes.
Here’s a look at a few reactions:
"It seems that DC deliberately not taking Vijay Shankar's wicket. Too many missed chances in an innings 😭😭😭 #CSKvsDC #vijayshankar" - @backfoot_punch_
"Vijay Shankar retire ho rha hai kya aaj?? Catches bhi uske drop kar rhe boundaries bhi usko de rhe" - @TheWittyyWitchax
"Vijay Shankar has already survived 4 times but still he's not able to hit big boundaries.. This shows csk management failed to buy proper hitters🙏🏻😑 #CSKvsDC #ChennaiSuperKings" - @SahooSambrudhi
"Undertaker 7 lifes Vijay Shankar 5 lifes" - @MoneshMj
"Summary of Vijay Shankar's knock: Mediocrity punching above its weight with a hint of luck. #CSKvsDC" - @Bhoomishbanewal
CSK Batting Looked Like A Train Wreck In Slow Motion
While Shankar was riding his luck, the rest of the CSK batting unit looked like they were playing on a minefield. Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad fell cheaply inside three overs. Devon Conway tried to steady the ship but never looked in control.
The big hitters? Shivam Dube showed glimpses before falling, Jadeja didn’t hang around and even the mighty MS Dhoni was reduced to a run-a-ball struggle. At the time of writing, CSK are crawling at 110/5 after 15.4 overs, needing a mountain to climb in the final overs.
While CSK’s batting was all over the place, Delhi’s bowlers were on the money. Youngster Vipraj Nigam bagged two wickets and bowled tight lines. Kuldeep Yadav, despite dropping a sitter, came back strong to trap Jadeja plumb. Mitchell Starc looked like his old self again and Mukesh Kumar kept things tidy upfront.
With CSK now needing over 17 runs per over, it would take a miracle (or more missed chances) to pull this off.
