In a controversial moment, Phil Salt earned a lifeline after Harshal Patel’s high full toss was deemed a no-ball by waist-height measuring technology. However, the decision caused outrage on social media due to inconsistency.

This year, IPL introduced a new technology to measure the waist height of each player to improve the accuracy of no-ball calls. However, inconsistency in decisions has instead caused confusion.

During a recent RCB-SRH clash, Phil Salt was given a lifeline, but in the past, a similar violation was deemed legal.

Phil Salt’s DRS Call Sparks Controversy

In the fourth over of the second inning, there was a high full toss bowled by SRH's Harshal Patel to RCB opener Phil Salt that looked borderline in regard to height.

Salt attempted a pull shot and was caught at deep mid-wicket, but the umpires weren’t sure if it was legal. They referred it upstairs to the third umpire for review.

The replays showed that Salt’s waist height was 0.95 metres, while the ball crossed him at 0.98 metres. Since the ball was above waist height, it was declared a no-ball. The catch didn’t count, and Salt survived, with a free hit to follow.

However, in the past, Aiden Markram lost an appeal during the GT vs LSG clash despite the ball passing around his chest height. This stark difference in decision-making has led to outrage on the internet as fans deemed the technology flawed.

Meanwhile, Salt made the most of the lifeline, hitting a quick half-century. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, was dismissed by Harsh Dubey on 43 off 25 balls. Together, the duo hit 80 runs for the opening wicket.

RCB, already in the playoffs, are chasing a mammoth total of 232 runs against SRH, who have nothing to lose as they’re out of the playoff race.
