In the second match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, Quetta Gladiators defeated Peshawar Zalmi comfortably by a margin of 80 runs at the Rawalpindi cricket stadium. Batting first, Quetta posted 216 on the board by the end of the 20 overs with contributions from all the batters, while Peshawar could only manage 136 as Abrar Ahmed took a four-wicket haul.
Here’s the timeline of how PES vs QUE panned out in Rawalpindi:
Shakeel, Allen Start Innings Off With Fireworks
In what came out as carnage, Quetta Gladiators, who were asked to bat first in Rawalpindi, smashed Peshawar Zalmi's bowlers all over the park. The opening duo of skipper, Saud Shakeel, and Finn Allen took the onus upon themselves to dismantle the opposition bowlers with their power-hitting abilities.

They combined to first smash 65 runs in the power play without losing a wicket and then went on to score individual half-centuries, with Allen taking 23 deliveries while Shakeel took 35 balls. They lost their first wicket by the end of the seventh over, when the score was 88. Allen departed for 53, while Shakeel went on to bat till the 16th over, scoring a fighting 59.
Nawaz, Rossouw, Mendis Dismantle Peshawar's Bowling Lineup
However, after them, Hasan Nawaz came on to the crease and thumped 41 of just 32 deliveries with three sixes to his name as the Peshawar bowlers were getting tortured, with runs flowing like water in Rawalpindi.
Wickets were hard to come by, as they lost their third wicket in the 17th over for the score of 158. In the death overs, the duo, Rilee Rossouw and Kusal Mendis, turned the heat on with their significant efforts as they put Zalmi bowlers under pressure by hitting boundaries after boundaries.

Rossouw took 10 deliveries for his unbeaten 21 with two fours and a six, while Mendis only consumed 14 deliveries for his valiant 35 not out with three fours and two sixes while batting at a strike rate of 250, helping Quetta post 216 on the board after the end of their 20 overs.

The bowling proved to be expensive, where Mohammad Ali went for 57 runs in his four overs, while Alzarri Joseph took a wicket, but was also quite expensive, leaking 53 in his four.
After the 88-run partnership for the first wicket, Shakeel and Hasan Nawaz staged a 63-run stand for the second, while Rossouw and Mendis were instrumental in taking them to the total with a 58-run unbeaten stand for the fourth wicket off just 23 deliveries.
Amir-Abrar Combo Shake Zalmi's Top-Order
In reply to Quetta, Peshawar Zalmi had a horrible start chasing 217. They lost their skipper Babar Azam early in the first over to the left-arm pace of Mohammad Amir, who got him out for a two-ball duck. The turbulence did not end there, as incoming batters Mohammad Haris and Tom Kohler-Cadmore were then dismissed in the fourth over by Abrar Ahmed for 13 and another two-ball duck, respectively as by 3.4 overs, there were three down for 30, with the target looking far away from their reach.

However, opener Saim Ayub, returning from injury, continued his form, thumping a 38-ball 50 to help his side when wickets were falling at regular intervals. With some support from Hussain Talat, scoring 35 from just 19 balls with three sixes to his name.

Unfortunately, Talat was dismissed in the 11th over, when they had 93 runs on the board, and after that, on the very next delivery, Max Bryant played one straight into the hands of Usman Tariq, who bagged back-to-back wickets on consecutive deliveries in the 11th over.

All of a sudden, Peshawar was reduced to 93/5 from 93/3 by the end of 11 overs, with victory not in sight anymore. Saim Ayub was still at the crease as he completed his half-century, but was dismissed on the very next delivery by New Zealand's Kyle Jamieson, who caught him off his own bowling, leaving them in further distress, with six down for 103 in 11.5 overs.
Disciplined Bowling Effort Help Gladiators Bowl Peshawar Out For 136
As soon as Saim departed, Alzarri Joseph, who had just come onto the crease, was run out on the very next delivery, causing further trouble to Peshawar side. With seven down for 103 by the end of 12 overs, Australia's big-hitting superstar, Mitchell Owen, walked onto the crease and smashed a few lusty blows in the end to save them from further embarrassment.

However, at the other end, Sufiyan Muqeem was dismissed LBW by Abrar Ahmed, and then for the third time in this match, in back-to-back deliveries, they lost their consecutive wicket when Mohammad Ali was knocked over by Abrar in the 13th over, with just 117 on the board and nine batters back in the pavilion.

As the game seemed fairly out of reach, Owen kept the strike to himself and found some boundaries in the final overs to help them reduce the margin of defeat. Nevertheless, he soon was dismissed after facing 13 deliveries, with four sixes to his name, as he went on to score 31, taking Peshawar to only as far as 136, where they were bowled out in just 15.1 overs. Gladiators comfortably won the game by a margin of 80 runs in the end.

Abrar Ahmed was the star performer with the ball, with four wickets for 42 runs in his four overs, while Usman Tariq and Mohammad Amir picked two wickets apiece to restrict Peshawar to just 136.
