Rilee Rossouw finally came to life as he hammered a quick-fire 82 to help the Capitals post a competitive 213 for 2 on the board. He was amply supported by Prithvi Shaw, who came back into the playing XI and scored his first fifty of the season.
Shaw, Rossouw guide DC to commanding total
After being put into bat, the Capitals openers - David Warner and Prithvi Shaw were off to a cautious start in the first 2 overs. However, as the dust settled in, the two batters went ballistic and hammered 61 inside the first 6 overs.
They targeted PBKS' best bowler, Kagiso Rabada, as the Punjab side were taken to the cleaners in the initial 6 overs.
It needed something special to dismiss either of the two openers, and Dhawan produced the moment with a brilliant catch. Warner mis-hit Curran's slower delivery as the ball went up in the air. Dhawan, stationed at covers charged towards his left and stretched with a dive to grab a stunner.
Rossouw was promoted at number 3 and the southpaw repaid the faith with arguably his best IPL innings till date. He wasn't afraid to take on the Punjab bowlers and hammered them to all around the park.
Meanwhile, Shaw completed his fifty inside 36 deliveries, but was dismissed with the score of 54.
Despite his dismissal, Rossouw made sure that the momentum was with the Capitals as he slammed his maiden IPL fifty off just 25 deliveries. Alongside Phil Salt, he provided the finishing touches as the Capitals breached the 200-run mark. Rossouw hammered 23 runs in the last over of Harpreet Brar and that could potentially decide the fate of this contest.
