The Indian Premier League 2023 has reached its business end. 64 matches have already taken place and still 3 spots remain for a playoff berth.
The 65th and a crucial IPL match will take place between two teams, whose fortunes have changed in the last few weeks. The Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad.
Team Previews
Sunrisers Hyderabad
On paper, SRH had the best team, who had all the bases covered. But fast forward 12 matches later, and they are already out of the tournament and will play the next two matches as a party spoiler for the other teams.
A lot of things have gone wrong for the SRH side. Too many chop and changes in the opening combination has worked against them. Their star player, Harry Brook, bought for INR 13.25 crore has failed to live up to the expectations.
Moreover, the decision to keep out Glenn Phillips from the playing XI (Touted as a tactical decision by SRH) has back-fired as the team lacks match-winner in the middle-order. The bowling has been a massive led down for the Aiden Markram led side, and the last two matches of the group stage should be used as a warm-up for the next season.
With RCB in need of two points from this match, SRH can play the role of a party spoiler, which they have done before as well.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB will be riding high on confidence after their terrific performance against the Rajasthan Royals. Defending 171, the RCB bowlers were on fire as the Rajasthan side were bundled out for a mere 59.
Despite the win, the team still has a lot of chinks in their armour. Despite scoring more than 400 runs in the ongoing IPL, Virat Kohli's strike-rate against the spinners has come under scrutiny.
Moreover, barring RCB's star-studded top-3 (Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell), the other batters haven't contributed much and need to join the party as the tournament progresses towards the fag end.
The relatively big ground at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium will help the RCB seamers, who love to deceive the opposition with the change off pace deliveries.
