New Zealand levelled the series 1-1 as Pakistan lost the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series by 79 runs.

Babar fights lone battle

Chasing 262 runs, Pakistan were thumped down completely as all of the New Zealand bowlers contributed to the wickets tally.

While Babar Azam played another contentious ODI knock as his strike-rate touched just about 70, his 114-ball 79 was arguably Pakistan's best of the night.

The New Zealand slow bowlers were deceptive as the hosts found it hard to go big against them. Eventually, all they could manage was a total of 182 as they were drubbed by 79 runs.

Conway, Williamson dazzles

It started in a similar fashion for New Zealand as Naseem Shah being the wrecker-in-chief from the last game created an early opening for Pakistan in the form of Finn Allen's dismissal.

However, opener Devon Conway and skipper Kane Williamson nullified Naseem's lethalness as their 181-run stand ensured a smooth passage of play for the Kiwis.

Pakistan's spinners Mohammad Nawaz and Usama Mir were yet again effective with the former's four-wicket haul being Pakistan's ticket to recovery.

While Conway smashed his second ODI ton, Williamson and Santer's 85 and 37-run knocks aided New Zealand in reaching the score of 261.

Brief scores

New Zealand - 261/2 (49.5)

Devon Conway 101 (92), Kane Williamson 85 (100);
Mohammad Nawaz 4-38 (10), Naseem Shah 3-58 (8.5)

Pakistan - 182/10 (43)

Babar Azam 79 (114), Mohammad Rizwan 28 (50);
Tim Southee 2-33 (6), Ish Sodhi 2-38 (8)

New Zealand won by 79 runs.
