The three-match ODI series between New Zealand (NZ) and England (ENG) continues with the second game set to take place on Wednesday, October 29 at Seddon Park in Hamilton. The much-anticipated encounter will begin at 6:30 AM IST.

New Zealand

New Zealand lead the series 1-0 after clinching a dominant four-wicket win in the first ODI. Opting to bowl first, the Kiwis restricted England to 223, thanks to a superb bowling performance. Zakary Foulkes led the charge with four wickets while Jacob Duffy picked three and Matt Henry added two.

Chasing the target, New Zealand’s top order faltered as Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, and Kane Williamson failed. However, Daryl Mitchell’s unbeaten 78 and Michael Bracewell’s 51 steadied the innings, guiding the hosts home in just 36.4 overs. With momentum on their side, New Zealand will now aim to seal the series.

England

England had a forgettable outing in the series opener, collapsing to 223 all out after a disappointing batting display. Six of their top seven batters: Jamie Smith, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler and Sam Curran, all fell for single digits. Only captain Harry Brook stood tall with a spectacular 135 off 101 balls while Jamie Overton contributed a fighting 46.

In the bowling department, Brydon Carse picked up three wickets with Luke Wood and Adil Rashid chipping in with one each. However, England failed to apply enough pressure to defend the modest total. The visitors will now look for a stronger batting effort to level the series and force a decider.

Seddon park Hamilton pitch report

The surface at Seddon Park is known for being balanced as it offers help to both batters and bowlers. Early on, pacers can extract swing and seam movement but the pitch tends to settle down, which makes stroke play easier as the innings progresses. Historically, chasing has been more successful at this venue with 23 wins for sides batting second compared to 15 for those setting a target. Captains winning the toss are likely to field first.
