'Nothing Works On MS Dhoni…,' Sanju Samson After Rajasthan Royals’ Last-Ball Win Over CSK

Rajasthan Royals held off a rampaging MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja to sneak a three-run win in match number 17 of the IPL 2023 season. With 21 to defend in the final over, Royals’ speedster Sandeep Sharma conceded 14 runs off the first three balls before unleashing three pin-point yorkers on the trot.
After the game, winning skipper Sanju Samson expressed his excitement over the result, and also stated how none of his pre-match planning and research with the data team worked on rival captain and all-time legend MS Dhoni.
Sanju Samson says Game not in the Bag until Dhoni is Playing
CSK veterans MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja formed forces at the crease with exactly five overs remaining in the game, and 63 runs still to get for a win. The two cricketers went berserk in the death, with Jadeja striking a 15-ball 25*.
Dhoni himself struck three sixes in his 17-ball 32*, with two of them coming in the final over of the game. However, Sandeep Sharma’s accuracy under extreme pressure prevented both batters to guide their side past the finishing line.
After the match, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson credited his bowlers for defending the total despite much dew on the ground. He also added that his was eager to register a win as they wanted to leave CSK’s home ground with “happy memories”.
Notably, the win was Rajasthan Royals’ first at the Chepauk Stadium since the inaugural edition of the IPL.
“Full credit to the boys in this type of ground with so much dew, it was excellent. Everyone was involved and everyone wanted to win. We want to go back with happy memories from here. We really wanted to go with a win. The ball was stopping a bit,"
Samson was also asked if he ever felt that the game was in their bag. He refuted any such thoughts and praised MS Dhoni’s credentials as a finisher and said that you can never feel that way when MS Dhoni is in the middle. He also mentioned that he had lot plans and had done research for MS Dhoni but reckoned that nothing works on Dhoni.
“Never, you can't feel that way till the time that guy [MS Dhoni] is in the middle. I do a lot of planning, research and sit down with the data team. A lot of thoughts are going around. Nothing works on Dhoni, though.”
The Rajasthan Royals will now face the Gujarat Titans in their next IPL 2023 fixture, set to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on April 16.
