Sunrisers Hyderabad’s two-game winning streak snapped with their 14-run loss to Mumbai Indians at home. In match number 25 of the ongoing IPL 2023 season, the ‘Orange Army’ were outclassed by Rohit Sharma’s troops to register their third defeat in five games.

After the match, SRH captain Aiden Markram said that he was not too disappointed by the loss, and claimed his team will only take lessons from the result to come up with better performances in the coming fixtures.

Aiden Markram credits batters for taking the chase deep

Mumbai Indians charted an imposing 193-run target, after being put to bat by Aiden Markram. The SRH batters responded swiftly in return, despite losing two wickets within the powerplay overs.

Opener Mayank Agarwal returned to form with a sublime 48, while middle-order basher Heinrich Klaasen clubbed a 16-ball 36 to keep his side in the hunt. Skipper Markram himself scored 22, before Klaasen’s dismissal triggered a batting collapse that eventually kept them 14 runs within Mumbai Indians total.

After the match, the SRH captain admitted that his team was not at its best in the game, but credited his batters for taking the run-chase down till the final over. He said:

“All in all, we were not at our best tonight. Credit to the boys for taking it deep. We could have done with conceding fewer runs towards the end,”

When asked about his decision to bowl first, he claimed that he considered the dew factor before taking field. Markram also added that he was not too disappointed with the result, and hoped that his team will improve on their performance to put up better results in the subsequent fixtures.

“We made a call (to bowl first) before the toss and if the dew came in then we were in the game. There was a desperation to make things right from the previous season. Not too bummed, there are areas we can improve on and we will look to do that to give us a good chance to win the next game.”
