Pakistani star Imam-ul-Haq showed his experience and calmness under pressure as he guided Yorkshire to a convincing five-wicket win over Warwickshire in the One-Day Cup. Chasing a total of 138, Imam displayed calmness to hit an anchoring half-century.

Batting first, Warwickshire were reduced to 137 all out in 36.3 overs. The only batter who could withstand the pressure was Vaansh Jani, who struck a magnificent 82 off 92 balls with six fours and five sixes.

But the rest of the batting unit did not back him up, the highest other score being a mere 15 for Alex Davies and Kai Smith.

Yorkshire Cruise In Low-Scoring Chase With Imam-Ul-Haq’s Gritty Knock

Chasing a small target of 138 runs, Yorkshire had a shaky start, losing opener Adam Lyth for just six runs. But Imam-ul-Haq steadied the ship with a brilliant 55 off 83 balls, smashing nine classy boundaries.

In spite of wickets lost from the other side, Imam stood firm to keep his team in a winning situation. Before Imam’s dismissal in the 33rd over, William Luxton added quick runs with a 25 off 21 balls, keeping the momentum in Yorkshire’s favour.

Then, George Hill (20)* and Harry Duke (10)* calmly finished the job, helping Yorkshire reach the target in 32.5 overs with five wickets in hand.

This win gives Yorkshire a strong boost in the tournament. Their next match is against Northamptonshire at the County Ground, Northampton, on Friday, and fans will be hoping Imam continues his great form.

Imam Replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad In Yorkshire Squad

Interestingly, Imam-Ul-Haq wasn’t Yorkshire’s first-choice player for the One-Day Cup squad. Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad had earlier signed a deal with the club, but he had to pull out due to personal reasons.

To fill the void, Yorkshire then turned to Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq, who is already making waves in the One-Day Cup. Imam is no stranger to English county cricket, having played for Somerset in 2022.
