The Hundred kicked off its 2025 season on August 5 at Lord’s in London, and the inaugural match witnessed an unexpected guest sprinting onto the field. A wild fox invaded the pitch during the clash between London Spirit and Oval Invincibles, briefly halting play.
While surprise appearances by furry visitors have become a somewhat common sight in recent cricket matches, a wild fox is a rare occurrence. Over the years, animals like snakes, dogs, and cats have made their way onto the field, but this is believed to be the first time a fox has done so in professional cricket.
The Appearance Of The Charming Fox!
During the match, Oval Invincibles were chasing a modest target of 81 set by London Spirit, with Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye at the crease. That’s when the fox suddenly appeared, dashing at high speed from beyond the boundary.
As the fox crossed the ropes and sprinted along the edge of the field, play came to a standstill, and players watched in amusement. Moments later, the fox made its way back off the field, drawing laughter and surprise from the crowd. Watch the clip posted by Sky Sports Cricket here.
Twitter users were hilarious in replying below the video, with some saying, "Free promotion of Fox Cricket", "Runs better than the English", and "I thought this was Sky Sports Cricket and not Fox Cricket," taking a dig at both Fox Cricket, a broadcasting house, and Sky Sports Cricket.
Fox Interruption Doesn't Hinder Invincibles' Win
Meanwhile, speaking of the match, Oval Invincibles began their 2025 Men’s Hundred campaign in dominant fashion, thrashing London Spirit by 6 wickets with 31 balls to spare in a completely one-sided London Derby at Lord’s.
After winning the toss, the London Spirit opted to bat but collapsed to their lowest total in Men’s Hundred history, managing just 80 runs. Oval Invincibles debutant Rashid Khan produced a stunning spell, ripping through the middle order with figures of 3/11, while Sam Curran also chipped in with 3/18.
Chasing a modest target, Oval Invincibles made light work of the total. Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye gave them a strong start, and despite minor stumbles in the middle, the result was never in question. Donovan Ferreira finished the match in style with a towering six, as the Invincibles sealed a thumping win to open their campaign on a high.
