In cricket, some dismissals feel less like accidents and more like perfectly executed plans. That’s exactly what happened when Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf teamed up to send Temba Bavuma back to the pavilion during South Africa’s chase against Pakistan in the second ODI at Newlands, Cape Town.

Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf Combined to Dismiss Temba Bavuma in Style

It was the final ball of the sixth over, and Bavuma found himself facing Naseem Shah. The young pacer, with his trademark accuracy, angled a length ball into Bavuma’s pads. The Proteas skipper tried to flick it away but lost his shape entirely.

The result? The ball ballooned off the bat, high and towards deep square leg, where Haris Rauf was waiting. Running to his left, Haris Rauf made the catch look easy, completing a brilliant fielding effort. Bavuma, looking disappointed, walked off after scoring just 12 runs off 17 balls.

Naseem wasn’t done though. After the wicket, he pointed towards his captain, Mohammad Rizwan, in what seemed like a cheeky “I told you so” gesture as he hinted that the dismissal was no coincidence but part of a larger plan.

SA vs PAK 2nd ODI So Far

Bavuma’s early dismissal was a blow to South Africa’s hopes of chasing down the colossal 330-run target set by Pakistan. At the time of writing, South Africa is 59/1 after 9 overs, with Tony de Zorzi batting on 30 off 30 balls and Rassie van der Dussen playing on 8 off 8 balls.

The Proteas still need a mammoth 271 runs in 41 overs to level the three-match series after losing the opener by three wickets.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s batters put on a show to post a massive 329-run total. Captain Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam led the charge with classy fifties, while Kamran Ghulam lit up the innings with a blistering 63 off 32 balls, hammering the South African bowlers all around the park.

With the bowlers already making inroads, Pakistan will be hoping to complement their batting effort with a strong bowling performance to seal the series.
