In the high-octane thriller between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the ACA-VCDA stadium, the visitors won the toss and opted to bat first for a change. However, the decision turned out to be a disaster as the Men in Orange tumbled for just 163 runs.

In reply, Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-Mcgurk got off to a brilliant start as they stitched a fifty-run stand for the first wicket. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis was on cloud nine as he slammed a fifty at the age of 40 years old.

It is worth noting that Faf is one of the oldest players in the league, and the fans are now guessing whether the South African star player has become the oldest player in the league to slam a half-century.

Is Faf Du Plessis The Oldest Player To Score A Fifty In IPL History?

For the unversed, KL is not the oldest, as Adam Gilchrist holds that record. Further, KL is 4th on the list behind Gilchrist, Chris Gayle, and MS Dhoni.

Further, Gilchrist slammed a fifty in 2013 against RCB when he aged 41 and 181 days.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that Faf further missed out by 2 days from breaking MS Dhoni's long-standing record of the oldest active player to score a fifty in IPL history.

MS Dhoni holds the record for being the oldest player to smash a fifty as he scored one against KKR in 2022 when he aged 40 years and 262 days. Further, Faf missed out on just two days as he is 40 years and 260 days old.
