After getting a lot of flak from cricket experts and fans, Babar Azam finally came to life and scored a Test fifty after ages as the star batter rescued Pakistan from a precarious situation in the second innings of the Rawalpindi Test match. The team lost three quick wickets and stared at a heavy defeat before Babar came to the rescue.

The Pakistan batter played with grit and determination and on a surface that was assisting the spinners, Babar took an aggressive approach and scored his first fifty in Pakistan since his famous hundred against New Zealand in December 2022. In the process, he also broke a huge record against South Africa, previously held by Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Babar goes past Inzamam in huge Test feat

Babar and Inzamam, two of the finest batters from their nation, had 6 fifties each vs South Africa in Test cricket (the most against the Proteas). However, with this fifty-run knock, Babar has overtaken Inzamam and stands at the top (7 fifties).

If Babar goes on to score a century, then he would become the Pakistan batter with the third most centuries at home (16). Currently, the record is held by Mohammad Yousuf, who has 19 hundreds to his name, and Babar is not far away.

Importance of this fifty for Babar

Babar reached the fifty-run milestone in Tests after 16 innings at home, and this could turn out to be a turning point in his career. Before the second Test match, his place in the red-ball team was on the line, but Babar responded with a gritty fifty that took Pakistan out of the danger zone.

He was dismissed shortly after reaching the fifty-run mark, but this knock will give massive confidence to Babar for the upcoming white-ball series against the Proteas.
